Creative inspiration
Derived from the alienation of modern people and the contradiction between reality and ideal in the hearts of individuals. In the process of my communication with others, I often think: Why in the modern society, the relationship between people is full of temptation and false? Why do most people refuse to understand others and life, and choose to live numb?
After more in-depth thinking and reference from related film themes, I found that due to the popularity of the Internet, and the pressure of urban life, modern people have become more defensive to others in communication and also lost the time and energy to live with heart, and the trust between people is in danger.
At the same time. Even if it is very compatible at first, after in-depth communication, the relationship between people will be tested, people will reveal the true dark side of human nature, and the relationship will "silently" break down. Therefore, inner collision often does not lead to the improvement of the relationship, but rather to the estrangement of disappointment. Therefore, a relatively satisfactory relationship can only be maintained from a safe distance.
Film Research
In my previous research, I studied and analyzed the works of Korean film directors Hong Chang-soo and LeeChang-dong.
Hong Chang-soo's work is good at using long shots to visually shoot dialogue, and the content of the conversation is also very daily. The distance between people is especially prominent in his films. The vanity, politeness, and tentative attitude of the people are vividly portrayed as a portrayal of the state of modern-society and people's hearts.
By studying the lines in the film, and the micro-expressions of the characters, learned how to express "alienation" in a relatively relaxed way, which also played a big role in my performance in the film.
In director Li Cangdong's works, the focus is on telling the "stories of ordinary people", and the inner sorrow and resistance of the little people are a prominent portrayal of people's hearts. In his films, I can perceive and understand that the twisting of the human heart is a manifestation of the contradiction between reality and beautiful vision.
By understanding this inner structure, I was able to create amore three-dimensional and realistic male protagonist in the film.
Scene and props
Scene
- Home: The heroine's home is filled with film cameras and some books about film creation and acting creation. The calendar on the wall filled her schedule, and she is very busy as a director. In the frame of 1.23, the waves, indicate that she has already arranged to relax on this day
Cafe: I chose a coffee shop standing on the hillside, with a sense of peace away from the city, in line with the purpose of the heroine's vacation. The overall appearance and interior of the cafe are simple and elegant, which matches the overall tone of the film. There is no ambient light around it, therefore, the coffee shop at night is full of dreamy colors in the picture, and the heroine finds the goldfish locked in the door at the end of the cafe, showing the staggered sense of reality and dream, reflecting the inner blurred of the hero.
Black beach
As the place where the hero and heroine meet for the second time, it is also a scene of the outbreak of conflict. The black beach makes the picture more cold feeling, different from the romantic beauty of a pure beach. At the same time, the clouds are dense and the sea is relatively cloudy, in line with the low and alienated atmosphere in the film.

Props
- Calendar:The calendar placed aside fills the heroine's work schedule, highlighting her busy work, but draws "waves" on a specific date, indicating that she has a travel plan, and is related to watching the sea.
Toast side: As a prop for the relationship between the male and female protagonists, it shows the tacit understanding between the two people. In the film, because of this special eating habit, the two start chatting and getting to know each other.
Goldfish
As the most important prop. First, it expresses that she, like them, is blocked in space, always longing for freedom, so she expects to travel to the seaside. Second, the film mainly discusses "the alienation between people and the world is the root of loneliness", and the encounter between the man and woman effectively narrates the story between the two people, and the two goldfish in the tank are also two individuals, in line with the plot. Third, the heroine with a goldfish, goldfish fetters, and in the end, the heroine and the separation of the goldfish, across the window, also suggests that the heroine after alienation relationship with the hero, and the only partner: goldfish also cut off the association, intended to express without any fetters or relationship can exist for a long time.

- Fragmentary documentary images in the whole film, we show the real form in the early stage of creation. I also hope that what I want to express is the true stories and feelings through the combination of documentary images and story images that exist in my heart.
- The evolution of the story
- The heroine comes to a coffee shop in the resort, and the hero and heroine pass by on the first day, after which they meet by chance. This relationship progressed relatively smoothly at the beginning, which also paved the way for the gap caused by the later conflict.
- And their contradiction arises in the disagreement over "film creation". The heroine's firmness and romanticism awaken the stubborn movie dream that the hero once had, all of which inspired his unwillingness and resentment towards the past, and the strong self-esteem and the downturn of reality made him have to suppress the heroine to gain inner peace and security.
- This is what I aspire to express in the film, "the complexity of human nature" and "the uncertainty of human relationships", so these two dialogues are the most important part of the story
- The fourth wall
In the documentary images of the two directors, the important entry point of "the photographer's glasses are broken" focuses on extending the existence of the fourth wall. I want this to show the truth of everything, and the cameraman is indeed the executive director.
Lost goldfish
The goldfish facing the heroine through the window means that the heroine's only bond is also disconnected from her. This is also an extension of the show's "interpersonal relationship" question, expressing that no relationship can last forever.

In the early days, we chose Pingtan Island in Fujian as the filming location.
I chose a coffee shop that is more dreamy at night. It stands on a hillside and has a French-style interior decoration, which is in line with the fresh tone of the film.
I chose the living room of a house where our team lives, and after the art director designed it, it became the heroine's room.
Preliminary Preparation
Script writing process
At first, my script was elaborated from the first perspective of a girl. I used a lot of monologues and empty shots to show the inner world of the heroine, but all these were too formalized and difficult for the audience to understand. It was the screenwriter's friend who proposed the image of the "goldfish" and outlined the basic story framework of the script.
The next 8-20 versions were created by me with the actor. In the first part, we greatly delete the foreshadowing of "why girls travel" and focus on the content of the trip. Second, we try to fill in the male characters multi-faceted. So, we set the hero as a man who once had a movie dream. Third, we create the dialogue by voice calls. We will go into the characters to communicate during the call, and get inspiration during the communication.
